Taking a daily vitamin supplement is as popular as ever now so how come the rate of chronic disease continues to climb?

  3. To make them easier to swallow.

Most of the popular brands of supplements can contain artificial additives, synthetic flow agents, chemical colouring and even imitation vitamin compounds that your body doesn’t recognize and cannot fully process.

Magnesium Stearate.

What It is: Magnesium Stearate is a flow agent additive.

What It Does: Over time can actually block the absorption of nutrients into your body, lead to digestive problems and create a suppressed immune system.

Why It’s Used: Used as a lubricant to stop the vitamins sticking together on the machines.

 

Artificial Colours.

What It Is: A chemical used to enhance the appearance.

What It Does: Has been known to cause problems such as cancer and hyperactivity in children.

Why It’s Used: Some artificial colours are derived from toxic coal tar. Coal tar is used for a variety of purposes such as roofing, exterior paints and sealants.

 

Hydrogenated Oils.

What It Is: Hydrogenation is a process in which a liquid unsaturated fat is turned into a solid fat by adding hydrogen.

What It Does: They can cause stroke, nervous system problems, block the absorption of essential fatty acids, upset blood sugar regulation and if that wasn’t enough, can also encourage heart problems.

Why Is it Used:  Prolongs shelf life, saves money to make.

 

Titanium Dioxide.

What It Is: An untested nanoparticle powder made from titanium bits.

What It Does: Has been shown to cause lung inflammation and damage. Taken internally it has been shown to cause kidney damage in mice and to induce small intestine inflammation.

“Titanium dioxide has recently been classified by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) as an IARC Group 2B carcinogen ‘possibly carcinogen[ic] to humans,'” explains the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health & Safety on its website.

 “This evidence showed that high concentrations of pigment-grade (powdered) and ultrafine titanium dioxide dust caused respiratory tract cancer in rats exposed by inhalation and intratracheal instillation.”

Why It’s Used: Often used as a pigment.

 

GMO’s (Genetically Modified Organisms)

What It Is: Living organisms whose genetic material has been artificially manipulated in a laboratory through genetic engineering.

What It Does: Can lead to organ damage, gastrointestinal and immune system disorders, accelerated aging, and infertility.

Often found if your vitamin contains ingredients like:

maltodextrin

citric acid

dextrose

vegetable based fillers

sugars of any kind

synthetic vitamin C (ascorbic acid)

Conclusion.

Of course nothing beats a healthy wholesome diet but if you do take vitamins check your ingredients and look to buy from the smaller companies rather than the larger pharmaceutical companies.
