We all use chemicals every day – water is a chemical, our bodies are partly made up from chemicals – but it is about knowing which chemicals are safe and which aren’t.
Harmful chemicals are hard to avoid as they can be found in our personal care (shampoo/moisturizer/skincare), our household products (cleaning products, detergents) and even our food including health vitamins and supplements. It doesn’t matter if the product is from a well known big brand name, labelled as suitable for sensitive skin or marketed at babies, chances are it has chemicals in it that are harmful.
Did you know it only takes 26 seconds for the chemicals in your personal products to be absorbed through your skin and enter your bloodstream? (this is how nicotine patches work)
This means that when we go to the beach for example we protect ourselves from the sun by covering ourselves in sunscreen but chances are we are using a product that contains cancer causing chemicals.
Or we bring our beautiful fresh new born babies into the world and within days, possibly even hours we are bathing their delicate sensitive skin in products that contain skin irritants.
There are many reasons why harmful chemicals are added to our products; as fillers, preservatives or to give the product a better scent or texture.
Is it worth using a product that can cause cancer just because it feels nice when applied?
I’m not saying we shouldn’t be using these products, we just need to be aware of what is in them, the effects they can have on us and therefore choosing the safer brands that we can trust.
Cancer is not the only effect these harmful chemicals can have on us, what about…..
Accumulating in organs
Damage to the central nervous system.
These are all serious issues that can really affect and/ or ruin someone’s way of life. When these chemicals were first being added to our food and products we had no idea of their side effects but now we do and now we can take action to avoid them.
Through this blog I want to break it down and look individually at the chemicals that we need to avoid. I will show you how to easily recognize them, the affects they can have on us and what you can do to avoid them. I want to help you avoid all the harmful chemicals in your home as well as through what you eat. There is so much info out there that is overwhelming or hard to understand. I want to put it simply for you so you can easily find your answers.
