Natural baby products, clothes, toys, wipes and eventually food is certainly the best start you can give your baby. For ideas about what products you need to be looking closely at for your natural baby and children check out my post: https://livingcleannow.com.au/chemical-free-kids/

When we decide to have children, we have all the best intentions for raising chemical free kids.

As they arrive into the world we do everything we can to give them the best start; delay their first bath, make sure all their clothes and blankets are clean and fresh, keep them away from smokers, get our whooping cough vaccine, keep them indoors, the list goes on!

But then….

Unknowingly, we give them their first bath and wash their clothes with products containing fragrances, surfactants and other chemicals such as DEA  all of which, among other things, are skin irritants!!!

We put them in nappies that contain bleach after wiping their soft little bottoms with Propylene Glycol – another skin irritant and powder them up with Talc – a carcinogenic containing small fibres that are also found in asbestos!

It’s not fair!

When we have a baby we have so much to think about. It’s scary, exciting but ultimately can be really overwhelming.

Natural baby products, clothes, toys, wipes and eventually food is certainly the best start you can give your baby. On top of that it can get really expensive, we don’t want to be buying products that we think are safe only to find out later they are filled with harmful chemicals!

(By the way, don’t miss my discount code at the bottom of this post for money off your chemical free kids products!)

When you have your first child you don’t know what you need. You spend every spare minute researching what you are going to need to buy, prepare and set up. It seems every time you open a magazine or attend a mum to be class you end up with a whole new list of things to buy – some of which you have no idea what purpose it is even suppose to serve!

The last thing we need is to be lied to by company’s wanting to sell their products. I feel that Mums to be are so vulnerable to these big manufacturers who convince us that in order to be a good mum we need to have their product.

[bctt tweet=”Mums are vulnerable to companies who convince us to be a good mum we HAVE to buy their product.” username=”livingcleannow”]

They all claim their product is the softest, gentlest, most valuable product out their for your precious new arrival but in actual fact most of them contain nasty chemicals.

Manufacturers claim their product is the softest, gentlest, most valuable product for your precious new arrival but in actual fact most of them contain nasty chemicals.

So, when our brain has information overload and our hormones seem to be attacking our ability to deal with it all how are we meant to know if the hundreds of products we are meant to buy are safe for our little poppets?

Natural baby products, clothes, toys, wipes and eventually food is certainly the best start you can give your baby. 11 products to check if you want to raise chemical free kids…

1. Bottles

Chemical To Watch For: BPA (Bisphenol)

Bisphenol is the main chemical that leaches out of bottles into the liquid (milk) inside. If you heat the bottle up it will leach Bisphenol A into the milk

Effects: Bisphenol has been linked to a variety of problems such as breast and prostate cancer. Studies have also shown other health problems such as early puberty, miscarriage and other sex hormone effects. So far there is no conclusive evidence about what Bisphenol will do to your babies health or development in their early years.

How To Avoid: Most bottles now will be BPA free, it should clearly say this on the packaging or even on the bottom of the bottle itself. Otherwise you could always use glass bottles.

2. Toys

Chemical To Watch For: Lead

Lead can be found in the paint and plastic used to make childrens toys. It acts as a softener to make plastic more flexible and allows it to return to it’s natural shape. The breakdown of the chemical bond between lead and these plastics forms lead dust, a known health hazard.

Chemical Free Kids

Effects: Lead is a toxic chemical that can have devastating effects on the mental and physical development of children. The brain and nervous system of children aged 6 and younger are the most at risk for lead poisoning. Lead has a huge negative effect on the functioning of several systems within the human body.
