The brain, the bones, and even the reproductive system, are some of the vital organs that fluoride negatively affects.
The banning of the substance in several countries of the world including Austria, China, Japan, and Germany underlines the dangers of consuming fluoride. It is, therefore, surprising that fluoride is still contained in our water, food, wine, coffee, and even baby formula, especially in countries like the United States.

Sources of Fluoride

To keep yourself safe from the dangers of consuming fluoride, one needs to identify sources of fluoride and subsequent avoid them.
Opting for fluoride-free toothpaste is not the only way of avoiding the consumption of fluoride. Items like baby formula, cigarettes, canned soup, coffee and tea, beer, wine, and fluoridated salt also contain fluoride.

Brain Damage

According to the National Research Council in 2006, fluorides can to interfere with how the brain functions. The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) also listed fluoride among the 100 chemicals for which there is “substantial evidence of developmental neurotoxicity. While no one wants to have a brain damage due to the consumption of fluoride, studies have been able to associate impaired visual-spatial organization with fluoride exposure indicates. One, therefore, needs to stay away from the substance as much as possible.”
A couple of studies have also established a link between prenatal fluoride exposure and fetal brain damage. This makes it imperative for women to avoid fluoride at least for the sake of their babies.

Arthritis and Bone Damage

No study has been able to link fluoride with arthritis. The chemical substance has however been shown to cause symptoms of arthritis, especially with skeletal fluorosis. The study conducted by the CDC in 2002 substantiates this claim. This shows that thirty-three percent of Americans have some form of arthritis, with other such countries also having similar figures.
A fluoridation trial in Newburgh-Kingston between 1945 and 1955 showed that bone defects among children living in fluoridated community doubled. Another report in 2001 by Alarcon-Herrera established a relationship between dental fluorosis and frequent bone fractures in children and adults living in high fluoride areas in Mexico.
Other dangers of consuming fluoride include lowered IQ, thyroid malfunction, and hip fractures in the elderly.

Avoiding Fluoride

Waiting for the government to ban the use of fluoride is a bad choice, as you own your body. You, therefore, want to take a bold step towards ensuring that you have a healthy and happy body. This can be possible by avoiding the consumption of fluoride as much as possible.
To avoid consuming fluoride, you need to stay away from processed and packaged foods and buy fluoride-free tubes of toothpaste. Also, avoid fluoride treatments at your dentist, ensure you filter your tap, quit smoking, and use homemade baby formula.
